Alexandra Road Park, Gateshead, UK

Situated at the heart of the Gateshead Bensham neighbourhood, Alexandra Road Park was envisioned as a bridge between divided communities experiencing cultural tensions. Designed, detailed, and executed by Dr Radfar, the park aimed to transform the local environment into a space of inclusivity, tolerance, and well-being.
Funded by Gateshead City Council, the project centred on creating a shared public realm where social interaction and cultural exchange could flourish. The park’s design incorporated major public consultation and features that encouraged community gatherings, dialogues, and recreational activities, fostering an atmosphere of mutual respect and understanding.
As a catalyst for positive environmental and social change, Alexander Park played a pivotal role in addressing community challenges by promoting harmony and enhancing the overall quality of life in the neighbourhood. This thoughtful integration of landscape architecture and social purpose redefined the park as a model of urban space for community cohesion and resilience.
