Sits on the middle east surrounded by mountains and desert. With history dating back to antiquity, it mixes high-rises and upscale shopping malls with clifftop landmarks. Its modern, with 50m dome and prodigious Persian carpet, can accommodate 20,000 people.
The middle east’s climate is one of the hottest in the world. Temperatures reach 130°F in the summer from April to October and rarely drop below 65°F in the cooler season from November to March. Average annual rainfall measures only 4 or 5 inches and occurs during December into April. Despite limited rainfall, however, humidity averages 65% to 80%. Summer monsoons create a tropical climate in the south.

Design Approach
Architecture needs to be people-led as well as design-led. Every project starts with a design brief, which is developed with the client and users groups. We use the design brief to test possible solutions which form the basis of the design.
Sustainable Development
Sustainable development definition is from Our Common Future, also known as the Brundtland Report: Sustainable development is development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.
Sustainable Design Goals
Sustainable design seeks to reduce negative impacts on the environment, and the health and comfort of building occupants, thereby improving building performance. The basic objectives of sustainability are to reduce consumption of non-renewable resources, minimize waste, and create healthy, productive environments. The idea of sustainability, or ecological design, is to ensure that our use of presently available resources does not end up having detrimental effects to our collective well-being or making it impossible to obtain resources for other applications in the long run.

Sustainable Architecture
Masdar City is one of the most well known projects in the Middle East. Touted as the world’s first zero carbon and zero emissions city but beset with economic troubles, Foster & Partner’s sustainable terra cotta-colored buildings are nonetheless very impressive to look at. Take a look at our exclusive pics of Masdar’s first few solar-powered buildings just outside of Abu Dhabi.

Contextual Architecture
Abu Dhabi’s Central Market is one of the oldest sites in the city. Inspired by the traditional architecture of the Gulf this scheme aims to reinvent the market place, giving the city a new civic heart. By offering an alternative to the globalized one-size-fits-all shopping mall it offers a distinctive modern interpretation of the regional vernacular. As a shopping experience it combines luxury goods boutiques with food markets and craft- based trades.

Futuristic Architecture
